Yesterday: Himesh Patel and Lily James are an irresistible pair in Danny Boyle’s latest film.
About 18 million years ago a good friend saw the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show in glorious black and white on a TV set that did not sit on a piece of furniture because it was a piece of furniture. Times changed. The grey haired folks that grew up with my friend mostly loved the Beatles, some did not, but they all had them in their soundtracks as life happened. The music and the memory of the music cannot help but be a major character of any movie remotely associated with the Beatles.
Go see the movie. Not a huge blockbuster. No neck break plot twists. Its just a well cast, solidly acted, romantic-comedy with some great music. If you like you can dwell on the implications of temporal displacement or plot development but if you do things like that you might not notice what a great day it is or the apple hurtling towards your head until it’s too late. Please, don’t even read this review. Just go see the movie or go to the beach.
